The Paragon Viking-24
A 10-sided 3” wall digital kiln specifically designed for extra heavy-duty firing and high temperatures. The extra insulation allows this kiln to easily reach cone 10 and also allows for longer cooling times, improving glaze results for your porcelain and stoneware!
All Vikings are digital. As with the TnF studio kilns, they feature the Sentry 12-key controller, easy access switch box, ½ amp fuse, and LiteLid. But in addition, they use heavy-duty mercury relays instead of our standard mechanical relays. Mercury relays outlast the standard mechanical contactor relays by a wide margin. The Vikings have power to spare. They are 14,400 watt kilns and fire on a 70 amp, 240 volt circuit. (Note: we can also make these kilns for international electrical systems.) UL/CUL & NEC compliant high amperage fuses protect the kiln and circuit wiring. These fuses are built into the kiln switch box.
Exclusive LiteLid Spring Counter-Balance
The massive lid is easy to lift with the exclusive, patented Paragon counter-balance LiteLid. The LiteLid reduces the strain on the kiln body from the pressure of the lid. This lengthens the life of the firebricks. The LiteLid eliminates cumbersome pulleys and ropes.
Kiln Stand with Extra Support
The 24” wide stand for Viking kilns supports the brick bottom with framing that is 4 ½” wide across the top of each side. The stand accommodates the Orton KilnVent. The stand is rock-steady, with 16 gauge frame and heavy 12 gauge legs.
If you move your kiln out of the way when not in use, order an optional deluxe kiln stand with steel casters.
The Sentry digital controller is manufactured by Orton Ceramic Foundation. It is unsurpassed in reliability for a controller in its price range. It includes a programmed cool-down, Cone-Fire and Ramp-Hold modes, and is capable of accepting types K, R, or S thermocouples. A type-K thermocouple comes standard.
For your peace of mind, the Viking-24 includes a switch that shuts off power to the controller when not in use.
